GPL to convert Hyderabad SEZ to residential one

Godrej Group’s realty arm Godrej Properties (GPL) plans to convert its Hyderabad IT SEZ project into a residential one. GPL had bought over 34 acres of land in Hyderabad in 2006 to set up a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) keeping in view the boom in the IT sector then. “SEZs are no more lucrative following the slowdown in the IT sector and due to some government regulations. We are looking at converting our Hyderabad SEZ project into a residential one, most likely catering to the mid-market segment. We will not focus on SEZs as of now,” Godrej chairman Adi Godrej said.

Hyderabad Metro to be ready in 5 years

The foundation stone for the prestigious Hyderabad Metro Rail Project will be laid in January 2011.

Union Minister for Urban Development S Jaipal Reddy said in Hyderabad on Wednesday that for the Rs 12,312 crore (Rs 123.12 billion) infrastructure project, the central government will give Rs 1,458 crore (Rs 14.58 billion) towards viability gap funding (VGF).

Reddy said that the project will be completed in five years and become operational to solve the traffic problems in Hyderabad city.

US consulate in Hyderabad silent on rape case

The USA consulate in Hyderabad is tight-lipped on the incident in which a 30-year-old US national was allegedly raped by an unidentified person at her residence. The victim has been working with Clinton Foundation as a nutritionist. When contacted the USA consulate said they are aware of the incident and cannot comment.

“We are aware of the report. We cannot comment or provide any further details at this point of time,” a consulate official said in a message sent to PTI.

Hyderabad added in AirAsia’s destination list

AirAsia, the low-cost airline company of Malaysia has said that it is going to start new flights for Hyderabad, capital of Andhra Pradesh. The flights will be connecting Kuala Lumpur to this place and the service will start from July 20.

This makes eight different destinations in India that are now in the list of AirAsia, which started its operations in December 2008.

Talking to media, Jasmine Lee Sze Inn, head (Commercial), AirAsia said that the promotional fare for this flight is going to be Rs 3,453 and will be available only for limited seats. These would be given to those who book their tickets in between July 5 and 8 and are going to travel in between July 20 and August 31. As of now, the fare for flights to Kuala Lumpur will be Rs. 4,000.

Hyderabad to host eINDIA 2010 in August
